Lorraine Jeffery currently
works as a Graphic Design Coordinator for the Alberta Government.
Lorraine at her current job has had the opportunity to paint e-cards
for the web, watercolour of the Life cycle of the rainbow trout,
historical buildings, and cartoon caricature for retirements and
special occasions. She also creates logos, t-shirt and designs along
with technical illustrations.
Lorraine took her first oil
painting class in grade 5 and was hooked. After graduating in commercial
arts at Selkirk College Lorraine embarked on a brief career in print
layout and design, Lorraine soon decided to venture out in the drafting
field in which she stayed employed in for 20 years, eventually backtracking
to graphics and design. While in the drafting field Lorraine painted
artist renderings in gouache for projects like Oldman River Dam
(published as artist rendering in the Alberta Report), Paddle River
Dam, St. Marys Dam and Headwork systems from the engineered
drawings previous to the construction.
Lorraine works in mediums
of watercolours, gouache, and oils expressing her emotions on paper
or canvas with a spontaneous free flowing style that she labels
as impressionistic art. I was always aware of colour and simplicity,
I love to capture all the necessary details with minimal strokes
of paint arriving to a finished product having it all while retaining
its simplicity in form and colour.
View Lorraines work
in her range of mediums and you will notice her love of the mountains
and water including some structured forms. As a kid she was always
in awe with the mountains.
Over the years Lorraines
paintings have found a few homes including a large oil mountain
scene bought for the Misericordia hospital, geriatric rehab unit.
She has done some commissioned work hanging in peoples homes
such as View across Crimson Lake towards Rocky Mountains,
also printed on the cover of Fish Facts published by Voyageur publications,
in 1995). Lorraine has exhibited at Johnson gallery, Misericordia,
Manulife Place and St. Albert Profiles gallery, Craft and Church
shows. It is a reward when another person experiences the
joy of displaying your work.
Her motto: paint with pleasure and passion while defining
confidence.
Lorraine first joined the Edmonton Art Club in 1990, she moved to
St. Albert in 1992 to join the St. Alberts painter guild.
Upon moving back to Edmonton in 2001 Lorraine rejoined the Edmonton
Art Club, that she values with pride.
