Raised in Montreal, Quebec, Meta's first art lessons as a child were at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts under the guidance of Dr. Arthur Lismer and as a young adult she took art lessons at Valentine's School of Commercial art.

While raising five children, Meta started painting in acrylics, showing her work at local art shows in St. Bruno, Quebec, and selling paintings from her home.

While mostly self taught, when Meta moved to Edmonton in 1975 she took short courses under a Parks and Recreation program, University of Alberta Extension, Sutton Art and Kamena Gallery. She has also attended art workshops in Alberta and Ontario and attended some Series Art courses at Red Deer College, as well as lessons in oils and watercolour from a variety of Edmonton artists including Gisela Felsberg (University of Alberta), Eileen Raucher Sutton (Sutton Art) and Willie Wong (Kamena Gallery).

Meta has coordinated art auctions and annual art workshops, and is an active member of The Society of Western Canadian Artists and the Edmonton Art Club.
