Artist statement:
To create from within all that reflects the beauty of music, nature, flowers,
performing and visual arts, the grace and fluidity of yoga, and the delightful innocence of my cats.

Sylvia was born in Europe and lived in Hungary, Austria and Australia before moving to Canada in the early 1970's. Her mother and artist father instilled a sense of creativity and appreciation for the arts in their five children, all of whom are artists.
As a business owner, wife, and mother she pursued practical interests in travel, art appreciation and cooking, painting and drawing only occasionally. In the early 1990's she was able to take the time needed to learn the technical aspects of painting and realize her talent and ability.
Encouraged by her husband Paul, she decided to actively study art beginning with watercolour classes under the direction of Eileen Raucher Sutton. Membership in the Edmonton Art Club nurtured her confidence and over the next ten years she was able to achieve impressive results with her still life paintings, while attending various courses in drawing, theory, mixed media, and art history, both locally and as far away as Portugal. Through local exhibitions, she has sold a number of her paintings.
In 2001 she enrolled in the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension Fine Arts Certificate Program, from which she is due to graduate in the summer of 2005.
Sylvia continues to devote most of her time to painting, art study, yoga, cooking, and her family including two adorable cats.
